Linda Robertson works with the figure in pastel and charcoal winning many awards for her work. She teaches general and life drawing to adults and senior school students in Melbourne.

She exhibits with several galleries including Paintbox Fine Art in Braddon, Canberra, and with Metropolis Gallery in Geelong, Victoria.

This workshop will develop your confidence in creating a convincing human figure on paper, and take you into the excitement of dynamic, expressive drawing in charcoal and pastel.

We will work with nude full figure drawings the first day, and a portrait model the second day.

Each day we’ll begin with quick charcoal sketches and work up to sustained drawings using charcoal and erasure on pastel grounds.

During the model’s breaks, Linda will demonstrate or work with individual students on their drawings, and we will examine master drawings for inspiration. We will look at works from the Renaissance such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci; the moderns such as Degas, through to the work of contemporary Australian artist Godwin Bradbeer.

She will show you how to simplify anatomy, use your “right brain” to see accurately, and explore the drama of tonal drawing. The aim of this workshop is to help you have fun with the medium, take a few risks, and find new creative pathways in your drawing.

We will also look at using different paper surfaces to work on, including Pastelfix paper, and Yupo paper using oil and graphite medium. Yupo paper and oil pastels/ graphite are provided.
