About Alissa Duke
Alissa is part of a global Urban Sketchers movement and she documents her world as a sketchbook journal artist. She uses watercolour pencils to draw subjects from the natural world, such as feathers, eggs, leaves and insects. She also draws objects from everyday life including food, coffee cups, books or toys. The subjects are personal and individual and often nostalgic and with a character of their own. Alissa has been using watercolour pencils since 2008. They have become her medium of choice as they allow her to blend and layer and to provide rough texture or fine detail to bring out the character of the object that she is drawing.
What makes this workshop (travel sketching) different from a drawing class?
This is not an Art Class as you know it. Alissa will not be teaching you to paint or draw. She will however teach you the foundation skills of how to see and to sketch an impression. No erasers or rulers. Wibbly wobbly is just fine. Nothing matters but enjoying what you do. You will need our minimal customised sketch kit to get started (this is included in the cost of the workshop). Absolutely anyone can do it. This is Travel Sketching. How to sketch those wonderful moments when on holiday or at home.
Who does this workshop suit?
People who have always wanted to sketch but never felt they could. People who have decided it’s time to do something new for themselves. Young professionals who spend all day on computers and travelling. Academics who crave a chance to be creative. Mothers who want some ‘me time’ while kids are in school. In fact this workshop is for everybody.
